Nestled in the heart of Villeray in Montreal, the premises of the Le Toasteur restaurant have only kept the copper metal tile ceiling and the restored oak wood floor from its old layout. The initial commission — a new bench seat and the expansion of the service counter — was gradually transformed into a complete design project, all thanks to the client’s trust in our team’s recommendations.

In this long and narrow space, the challenge of optimizing light and traffic flow were at the heart of concerns. As soon as you enter, the glass vestibule sets the tone by letting the light filter through. To enlarge the space visually, the color palette was created around light tones, without being devoid of interesting textures and contrasts. A long and rectangular white ceramic covers the bottom of the walls and the base of the bar counter. Like the pale concrete textured wall, it provides a luminous canvas for the rest of the project. Table tops, chair seats and counter tops are made of white oak and bring warmth to the space. A few colors nicely punctuate the layout: the burgundy leatherette of the bench and stools, the blue-gray of the Alphabet Topique Automne chairs and the chestnut terrazzo pattern of the bar-counter.

Whether they are comfortably seated at the new window-counter, at a communal table, at the bar or on the new bench seat, Le Toasteur‘s loyal customers can now enjoy a renewed experience in this Villeray institution.
